Corpus Christi police arrested Carroll High School employee Corey Bellino, 51, on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child.
Bellino was arrested after a traffic stop on Aug. 19 on State Highway 44 and Rand Morgan Road, the police department said in an online post.
On Aug. 18, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Bellino after a report from a former Corpus Christi Independent School District student.
The victim alleged that Bellino had engaged in sex acts with the victim on the Carroll High School campus and during school-sponsored extracurricular activities while the victim was an underage student at the school.
Bellino at the time was a career and technical education teacher and girls wrestling coach.
Bellino has been on administrative leave since Aug. 10 and has not been on school property, and the district will recommend to the school board that his employment be terminated, Carroll Principal Jenifer Guerra-Leos said in an Aug. 19 letter to school staff and families. CCISD spokesperson Leanne Libby provided the letter to the Caller-Times.
Guerra-Leos wrote in the letter that she could not discuss the specifics of the case.
Detectives were assisted on this investigation by the CCISD Police Department and Carroll High School administration.
Bellino was being processed at the Nueces County Jail the morning of Aug. 19.
Bail was set at $1.5 million, according to the police department’s post.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, and detectives are continuing to attempt to identify additional witnesses or victims.
