Rainbow flags waved proudly and music filled the air Saturday, June 28 at Memorial Park, as hundreds gathered to celebrate Pride on the Plains, hosted by local nonprofit Smile Big Texas. The vibrant, fenced-in event offered a joyful and welcoming space for Amarillo’s LGBTQ+ community and its allies, featuring enhanced security measures and a spirit of resilience and togetherness.
The family-friendly festival brought smiles to all ages, with bounce houses, face painting, and a packed lineup of entertainment that included local bands, a talent contest, and a theatrical drag show. DJ group 806 Mix Masters kept the beat going between performances. More than 75 vendors and a diverse selection of food trucks offered everything from handmade crafts to festival treats, turning the park into a celebration of love, identity, and community pride.
