How to watch Texas Tech baseball vs BYU today: Schedule and streaming

The road trip to Cincinnati for the Red Raider baseball team came with two high points. The first of which was extending its season by one more game and qualifying for the Big 12 baseball tournament. Secondly, their lone win in the series pushed Tim Tadlock’s career total to 500 wins.

The Texas Tech baseball team enters the Big 12 tournament as the No. 12 seed, squaring off against the No. 9 seed BYU Cougars. The Big 12 tournament is single-elimination. If Texas Tech wants to extend its season past this week and make the field of 64, it would have to win five games in five days. But the first task at hand is an opponent Texas Tech squared off against just two weeks ago.

Fresh history

When the Red Raiders and Cougars squared off, Tech edged out a series win by a count of two games to one. It was their first Big 12 series victory in their previous six series. The Red Raiders won the opener in an unexpected pitchers’ duel by the score of 2-1. BYU won the middle game of the series by a score of 12-3. The rubber match went the way of the Red Raiders in a 15-11 high-scoring affair that saw the teams combine for 29 hits and seven home runs.

In a single-elimination format, the best players have to step up for this Texas Tech baseball team. That is exactly what happened the last time these teams met. Logan Hughes, including his non-conference game before the three-game set against BYU< batted .417 with three home runs, 10 RBIs, and scored seven runs. That four-game performance netted Hughes co-Big 12 player of the week honors. Both teams lack any dominant pitchers. Expect this to be another slugfest in Arizona to kick off the Big 12 tournament.

Tall task to win five straight

The Red Raiders have had a hard time stringing wins together this season. The longest winning streak of the season was a seven-game streak back in February against UTRGV, University of Albany, and CSU Bakersfield. In Big 12 play, Texas Tech has only won consecutive Big 12 games once this season. It is noteworthy that it came against the number one-seeded Kansas Jayhawks. But if Texas Tech can get past BYU today, it will move on to the second round against eighth-seeded Baylor.
