June has gone as fast as it came here in the Big Country, and while the summer heat has packed quite the punch, Abilene’s business scene is booming with new openings, relocations and exciting summer announcements.
From new mall dining concepts to grand restaurant transformations, here’s what happened in Abilene’s local business scene in June.
Business openings
San-gar Imports celebrated its grand opening this month. The veteran-owned business opened June 6 and offers a variety of Mexican imports, including Talavera pottery, fountains, planters, chimneys and more.
The store is located at 817 Butternut St. and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m.
Yellowhouse Machinery also celebrated a grand opening this month, officially opening their new Abilene location at 2625 E. Stamford St. on June 12.
Yellowhouse Machinery is a John Deere authorized commercial dealership specializing in the sale of heavy-duty construction equipment and parts.
Abilene’s First Financial Bank relocated from its downtown location this month, opening a new storefront at 547 Pine St. on June 15.
The new location is drive-through only and designed to provide a faster, more convenient banking experience for customers.
Abilene also welcomed a new health and wellness clinic this month with the opening of Wellness U Health on June 18.
The clinic is located at 6715 Memorial Drive and offers personalized wellness services, including hormone supplements, peptide therapy, medical weight loss and more.
The mall of Abilene also saw growth this month with the opening of two new dining concepts.
The Sweet Spot, a new drink and dessert cafe, opened in the mall on June 14 and offers a variety of Latin American-inspired drinks, desserts and other snacks that will rotate through the week.
Moot Moot Asian Food & Drinks Garden also opened this month in the mall suite that used to house Ari’s Cafe.
Mine by Design Mobile Pottery and Art Studio also opened something new this month. The art studio celebrated the grand opening of their new event space, That 721 Place — located at 721 Iberis Road — on June 18.
Fuego Tortilla Grill is also set to open this June. The gourmet Tex-Mex chain is slated to open June 30, 2026, at their new location at 3130 S. Clack St.
Restaurant closure
While June saw the openings of many new restaurants and businesses, it also saw the doors close on one of Abilene’s longest-standing barbecue joints.
Sharon’s South at 2050 Antilley Road announced the closure of its restaurant on June 8 as it prepares to shift to a new eatery with a Cajun- and seafood-inspired menu.
The restaurant is set to reopen as a new dining concept called Cahoots Seafood Bar & Grill.
New things coming
This month also saw many new business announcements, including Shake Up Abilene, a new protein shake and specialty drink cafe, located in the River Oaks Shopping Center.
A second Firehouse Subs location is also underway as construction nears completion at 2608 Enterprise Drive.
Construction also began this month on the new Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers at 4145 Ridgemont Drive.
The restaurant is expected to be completed by December 2026.
