A dominant performance on the mound highlighted this week’s Apple Dental Center High School Athlete of the Week.
Gregory-Portland baseball player Dominic Guerra delivered a standout outing in the Wildcats’ District 29-5A matchup against Veterans Memorial.
Guerra threw seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out seven in a 2-0 victory last week at Whataburger Field.
Guerra received 3,102 votes, accounting for 57.69% of the 5,377 votes cast.
Rockport-Fulton track and field athlete Adyson Burton finished second with 1,390 votes and Refugio baseball player Laytyn Garza was third with 515 votes.
Students can only be named Athlete of the Week once per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted by email at ctsports@caller.com or on X at @CallerSports. Please include statistics or honors for your athlete.
