Gina Hinojosa, Gov. Greg Abbott on secure Texas election in governor race

Gov. Greg Abbott is again calling into question how secure elections are in Texas with a new social media post.

In it, he claims “Texas Democrats oppose election integrity,” before posting the names of the 79 Democratic state legislators who opposed SB1, which required IDs for mail-in ballots and elevated the penalties for illegal voting.

The post on Wednesday, June 24, also included the names of state Democrats absent from the vote.

The post was not without its controversy, with some saying it was a similar battle cry from the Trump administration in any elections in which Republicans were defeated.

“Because the incidence of voter fraud is so incidental, it wasn’t even worth the time of a debate,” one comment read.

Another took aim at what they saw as the real reason for the bill.

“Thank you, Democrats, for voting AGAINST voter suppression!” the comment read.

Finally, another commenter made it clear who they think is behind the push for voter IDs.

“Texas already has voter ID laws, Abbott is doing another favor for Donald (Trump) 5 months before the election,” the comment said. “The SAVE Act would require obtaining documents for married women that could longer to obtain, such as marriage licenses. Abbott has already followed Donald’s orders to gerrymander Texas. Notice Abbott didn’t post the percentage of illegal voting as it’s less than 1%.”

Gina Hinojosa unveils billboard attacks

Texas Democratic governor candidate Gina Hinojosa jabbed back at Abbott’s attacks on Democrats with the unveiling of a series of billboards on his record.

The three billboards were released across downtown Corpus Christi on Tuesday, June 23, ahead of the state Democratic party convention, outlining Abbott’s alleged history of corruption, including steering state contracts to his donors. Abbott has given away a billion dollars of Texans’ money to his donors in no-bid contracts, Hinojosa claims in the billboards.

The campaign officials noted that until Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the campaign will continue to “show voters how the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax has taken taxpayer dollars from hardworking Texans while they struggle with their neighborhood schools closing, data centers flooding their communities, and the rising costs of gas, groceries, utilities, and healthcare.”

The billboards will be up until June 28th as a reminder of the stakes of the coming election.

“This election is about one fight: do the billionaires get to run our state, or do the people of Texas?” Hinojosa said. “Greg Abbott has picked the billionaires, and he’s been handing them our money ever since.”
