Two favorite movie venues are celebrating the Halloween season with a lineup of horror classics filled with screams, jump scares and suspense for all the thrills and chills, and a local car wash brings back its seasonal Tunnel of Terror.
In addition, there will be a special one-night screening of the “ghost with the most.” Below is a list of some of the scary (and not-so-scary) screen favorites.
Cinergy Amarillo, 9201 Cinergy Square at Town Square
Along with a monthlong series of the “Hunger Games” films, Cinergy will be screening several seasonal favorites and new releases. There are also recent horror releases playing now, such as “Final Destination: Bloodlines” and “The Conjuring: Last Rites.”
Tascosa Drive In, 1999 Dumas Drive
The Amarillo drive-in location hosted an annual Trunk or Treat & Carnival Night on Oct. 11 with mini pumpkins, carnival games and Halloween snacks and treats. The venue continues its spooky lineup throughout the month.
Gates open at 6 p.m., and movies start around 7:45 p.m.
There’s a special carload pricing when you purchase the new Tascosa sticker for $5.20 plus tax and display it on your car. Otherwise, it is $20.80 plus tax per carload for up to seven people. Adults are $10.40 (credit card) and $10 cash. Children 4-11 are $5.25 (credit card) or $6 cash. Children under 3 years old get in free. Call 806-383-3882.
They’ll also be holding a blood drive at the drive-in, hosted by the Our Blood Institute (Coffee Memorial Blood Center), on Oct. 31 from 3 to 8 p.m., and all donors will get a free medium popcorn and a T-shirt. You can register online on the center’s website.
Don Harrington Discovery Center, 1200 Streit Dr.
The Don Harrington Discovery Center is hosting an adults-only screening of the 1988 movie, “Beetlejuice.” Community members 21 years old and older are invited to enjoy a “strange and unusual evening” of fright with a late-night screening in DHDC’s one-of-a-kind Space Theater.
The event will be right after the family-friendly Monster Bash, on Oct. 24. Doors open at 8:30 p.m., and the movie starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Ticket-holders are encouraged to come in costume, grab their friends, and get ready for a spooky-good time. A specialty cocktail, the “Mojito for the Recently Deceased,” will also be served. Guests with a wristband add-on ($25 admission) can enjoy endless refills on drinks and buttery popcorn.
Tunnel of Terror at Tommy’s Express Car Wash, 6010 Lowes Lane
If you’re ready for a different, unique experience to haunt your dreams, you can get terrified as your car gets a wash by heading out to Tunnel of Terror at Tommy’s Express on 6010 Lowes Lane.
The Tunnel of Fear will be screeching on Oct. 18-19 and 24-25 from 7 to 10 p.m. for the price of $25 to experience this clean, scary time with friends.
According to reviews, it’s a fun and scary time with lights flashing and people walking around inside the car wash with only one mission: to scare you.
