When the Texas Longhorns take on UTEP on Saturday, they will have a sold-out Darren K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium behind them. While they will be looking to improve to 2-1, there will be a few 2027 recruits in attendance. That will now include cornerback Montre Jackson, who has received interest from programs nationwide.
While the Longhorns hope to add Jackson to their plans, they do have competition. The Texas native has also received offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Baylor, and Duke. All of those programs would have an improved secondary with Jackson in the mix two years from now.
The heavy interest in Jackson comes as no surprise. During his sophomore campaign, the talented cornerback recorded 35 tackles and nine pass breakups. That is partly why he has received 41 Division One offers. Currently, the Lakeview Centennial High School product is ranked as the 20th-best cornerback in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 30th best player in Texas and the 178th player in his class. Those rankings could change as Jackson continues to get more experience.
This weekend, Sarkisian and his staff will get to show Jackson what his future as a Longhorn could hold. They have also specialized in developing their players into NFL prospects over the last few years. In the 2025 NFL Draft, two former stars in the Longhorns’ secondary, Andrew Mukuba and Jahdae Barron, were picked in the first two rounds. That will be one key aspect that Jackson looks at as he decides which program is the best fit.
Regardless of where Jackson starts his college career, he has a bright future. The Longhorns hope that includes a stop in Austin, making life difficult for SEC quarterbacks.
