Former Texas A&M wideout makes Chicago Bears 53-man roster after impressive preseason

After an impressive preseason showing for the Chicago Bears, former Texas A&M wide receiver Jahdae Walker has made the franchise’s initial 53-man roster.

The undrafted rookie flashed in his preseason NFL debut for the Bears, hauling in eight receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Walker secured the game-winning score in the final game of Chicago’s preseason schedule against the Kansas City Chiefs, which led to the Bears’ fan base clamoring for Walker to be included on the roster ahead of the 53-man deadline today at 3 p.m. CT.

According to the Chicago Bears’ 247Sports reporter Zack Pearson, the franchise made the decision official this afternoon to retain Walker, following his impressive string of outings that proved his case to be a potential difference-maker for the team moving forward.

Walker began his collegiate career at Grand Valley State in 2021, where he hauled in 32 catches for 651 yards and four touchdowns. Following his short stint with the Lakers, he transferred to Texas A&M and led the team with three 100-yard receiving games in his junior year.

His senior campaign featured the Cleveland, Ohio, native ranking third on the team with 29 catches and 345 receiving yards, while also being named the Aggie Heart Award Winner. The accolade is presented to the most outstanding senior at the program’s end-of-the-year banquet.

The former Aggie then entered his name into the 2025 NFL Draft, but was undrafted and later signed with the Bears as a free agent. His performances during the preseason and his effort to improve off the gridiron led to him earning his spot on the roster. Walker’s constant improvement and willingness to learn have been inspirational to his teammates and coaches in the franchise as well.

Current Bears wideout Rome Odunze sang Walker’s praises in today’s media availability in Chicago, stating how much work the Texas A&M star put in to make the cuts.

“All day, Jahdae,” Odunze said. “He worked very hard to make the team.”

With Walker making the initial 53-man roster, it will be intriguing to see how the franchise will use the speedster moving forward. Chicago’s first contest of the 2025 NFL season is against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, September 8.
