The Andress High School boys basketball team made a big statement in a 79-31 road win at Burges in District 1-5A.
The Eagles are ready for the postseason.
Andress avenged a 75-73 overtime loss to the Mustangs last month to improve to 18-8 overall. The win on Tuesday evening moved the Eagles to 4-2 in district. Burges falls to 17-11 overall and 4-2 in district. There are four games left in the regular season.
“Burges is a good team and did a great job in the first matchup. We went back to the drawing board after the game, cleaned up some things and we’ve been playing better,” Andress coach Eugene Costello said. “Our defense is always a catalyst for us and we did a great on that end of the court.”
Junior guard Curtis Hargrave led Andress with 25 points, but the team also got key contributions from Carmyne Mychackavane, Torraino Johnson Jr. and Damian Ortega.
“We we’re all connected, talked about playing defense and making those extra plays,” Hargrave said. “February is our month and we want to play our best basketball.”
Burges girls rally to beat Andress
Burges remained perfect in District 1-5A with a 51-42 win vs. the Eagles. Burges outscored Andress 21-4 in the fourth quarter and is 8-0 in district with two games left in the regular season.
Alyssa Morales led Burges with 15 points and Melanie Arriaga added 12 points.
