Political newcomer Mark Dora won the race for the top administrative job in Wichita County on Tuesday.
Dora beat former Wichita Falls City Council member Rick Hatcher in a runoff for the Republican nomination for Wichita County judge. Because there is no Democrat to challenge Dora in the Nov. 3 General Election, he is expected to take the post on Jan. 1.
Here’s the final unofficial tally from the Wichita County Election Supervisor’s Office.
The two men emerged as the top vote-getters in the March 3 Republican Primary, eliminating Dawn Ferrell from the race and making Tuesday’s runoff election necessary.
Dora will replace one-term county Judge Jim Johnson, who decided against seeking a second term.
Wichita Falls Republicans also followed the statewide trend in ousting longtime U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in favor of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

By early Wednesday, results from the Texas Secretary of State’s Office showed Paxton had beaten Cornyn 880,202 to 487,702 with 99% of the statewide vote counted.
Paxton will face Democrat James Talarico in the Nov. 3 general election.
