A Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office deputy died in a crash while on duty on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 8 near Las Cruces.
According to the county, Patrol Deputy Antonio Aleman died after his vehicle collided with a semi-truck on eastbound Interstate 10 near the Avenida De Mesilla around 5 p.m. Aleman was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where life-saving measures were performed, but Aleman succumbed to his injuries.
In a post to its X account during the evening, New Mexico State Police reported an ongoing investigation into the fatal crash involving a Doña Ana sheriff’s office deputy.
Aleman was 33-years old and leaves behind a wife and two children. He had been with the sheriff’s office since April 2021, according to a county news release, which described him as a valuable asset to the department.
Aleman’s body will be taken to the Office of Medical Investigators and once the examination is completed his body will be escorted in a procession on Wednesday to a Funeraria Del Angel funeral home in El Paso.
Sheriff’s personnel will accompany Aleman until he is laid to rest, which will be announced at a later date, the county stated.
