Cowboys offer no details on Trevon Diggs' concussion; say he might play Week 8

The Cowboys put together their most complete game of the 2025 season with standout performances from playmakers in all three phases, but some of the first questions after Week 7’s 44-22 win over Washington were about a star who didn’t set foot on the field at all.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer and owner Jerry Jones were both quizzed about cornerback Trevon Diggs as they made their postgame remarks. The two-time Pro Bowler was inactive for Sunday’s contest, having been placed in concussion protocol on Friday. According to reports, Diggs had some sort of accident while at home late Thursday night.

Both Schottenheimer and Jones are optimistic that the All-Pro’s absence will be short-lived, suggesting Diggs could even be back in the lineup for the team’s trip to Denver next weekend to take on the 5-2 Broncos.

Forth-eight hours after the mysterious accident, no details about what happened have been made public, though both Schottenheimer and Jones say they have gotten Diggs’s version of the story straight from him.

Schottenheimer did not share in his postgame press conference what Diggs told him about the incident. Jones’s explanation won’t do much to satisfy curiosity about the incident that caused Diggs to miss his 23rd game out of the Cowboys’ last 40.

“I’m not so sure that I know the detail of what happened,” Jones told reporters Sunday after the decisive win.

“Oh, he said what happened. But again, and I’m not saying that didn’t happen, but a lot of times you’re not the best viewer of what happened to you.”

“This is not some kind of ‘smoking gun’ deal. At all. He said he had an accident, and I’m good with that,” he added, per 105.3 The Fan.

The unanswered questions are just the latest in a long saga that has many wondering if the sixth-year corner, who led the NFL in interceptions in 2021, has worn out his welcome with the organization… especially with the league’s Nov. 4 trade deadline rapidly approaching.

That’s a suggestion that both coach and owner shot down quickly.

“We need him,” Jones said, adding that the 27-year-old will receive his game check as normal. “We’ll be a lot better team with Diggs.”

“I’m a Trevon fan,” Schottenheimer echoed. “I’m excited to get him back, and hopefully it won’t be too long.”

Cowboys fans may not get answers on Diggs’s concussion. But they may get Diggs himself back as soon as next Sunday.
