Wisconsin football fell to 2-5 with a blowout loss to No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday. The final result wasn’t much of a surprise. Ohio State entered the game as close to four-touchdown favorites. But the game’s 34-point margin, which included zero Wisconsin points, continues to raise alarms surrounding the state of the program under Luke Fickell.
Several numbers and trends highlight that reality. The team has been outscored 84-3 since halftime of the Michigan game on Oct. 4. That margin includes 37-0 and 34-0 home losses to Iowa and Ohio State, respectively, the last two weeks. While Wisconsin entered the season with tempered expectations, mostly due to a brutal Big Ten schedule, the team continues to perform far below expectations.
Several Wisconsin alumni took to social media during and after Saturday’s loss, as many have all season, to react to both the defeat and the current state of the program. That reaction continues to include calls for a coaching change.
