Joseph Abrantes and Maverick Grimm made it a Volusia-Flagler sweep at the state weightlifting meets.
Both Father Lopez strongmen earned titles, meaning at least two locals captured gold at all three levels — Class 2A on May 6, 3A on May 7 and 1A on May 8 — at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
Their crowns came in the Olympic category, as the Green Wave vaulted to second as a team. Their 14 points ranked only behind champion Keystone Heights’ 25. Father Lopez tied for seventh in the traditional standings.
Abrantes topped the 154-pound weight class with a 480 Olympic total. He hit a 215-pound snatch and a 265-pound clean and jerk.
He also finished second in the traditional lifts with a 550 score, putting him just five back of first place.
Grimm prevailed with a 525 Olympic score at 169 pounds. He turned in a 225-pound snatch and a 300-pound clean and jerk.
He added a third-place mark of 540 in the traditional discipline.
Two other Volusia-Flagler lifters cracked the top 10 in their respective weight classes.
At 169 pounds, Father Lopez’s Aiden Suklam slotted 10th with a 410 Olympic score. On the traditional side, Taylor’s Tre Gaines was seventh (635 total) in the unlimited weight class.
