Domestic dispute in Downtown Peoria leads to two shooting deaths

A man and woman died amid a domestic disturbance in Downtown Peoria.

An officer responded to the 500 block of Hamilton Boulevard around 6:36 p.m. Friday. During the dispute, the man shot the woman, and the responding officer shot the man, the Peoria Police Department said in an official statement posted to Facebook.

The man and woman were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead, police said Friday night. The officer was not injured.

The identities of the man and woman had not been released by the Peoria County Coroner’s Office as of Saturday morning.

The deaths are being investigated by Illinois State Police in accordance with protocol for officer-involved shootings.
