MUNCIE, IN — Indiana State Police are investigating an early morning officer–involved shooting on Muncie’s west side.
According to Melissa Criswell, deputy chief of the Muncie Police Department, city officers at 2:17 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, were sent to the 3000 block of West Oaklyn Avenue.
A call to emergency dispatchers indicated a man was trying to force his way into a residence, and that he had made threats to kill a family member.
When police arrived, “during the interaction with the suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to Criswell.
The suspect fled from the scene in a vehicle, but crashed at Tillotson and Godman avenues, she saiid.
He was declared dead at the scene. Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene was called to the scene.
State police were asked to conduct the investigation because of city police involvement in the shooting.
