The George Pickens drama may not have been wrapped all nice and neat with that pre-draft report after all. Despite news late last week that the wideout intended to sign his franchise tag and report for voluntary workouts, Monday came and went with no Pickens and no signature on that tender. Maybe it’s nothing, but the situation bears watching, just as with several other marquee M.I.A.s around the league. And things didn’t get any clearer after an Adam Schefter report that Pickens had demanded either a new deal or a trade first aired… and then was deleted.
But there’s still a new crop of rookies to evaluate. Monday’s headlines look back at the Cowboys’ draft, how it stacked up, and how breaking some longstanding commandments may have worked in their favor. Also, among this year’s undrafted free agents is a running back with a familiar last name. Could Barry Switzer’s grandson find his way to a roster spot?
All that, plus Dallas signs one of Aaron Rodgers’s favorite targets plus two more veteran free agents… and DeMarvion Overshown appears to be gearing up for serious contract talks entering the final year of his deal; he just hired the last agent Jerry Jones wants to deal with.
Some leftover nuggets from the draft: We go behind the curtain to make sense of the Rams picking Ty Simpson… and how Sean McVay really feels about it. Heisman runner-up Diego Pavia weighs his options after going undrafted, and we look way, way ahead to the 2027 draft. (The Cowboys are projected to be back in WR-shopping mode.)
Around the league, the Eagles lock in Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter for their fifth year, Mike Tomlin opens up for the first time about why he stepped away, Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor is hospitalized… and an amazing story about a man whose reaction to an embarrassing football blooper last season may have actually saved his life.
