The new league year officially opened on Wednesday, with the Dallas Cowboys generating big headlines by trading a pair of defensive lineman to close out the day. Defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa was shipped to the 49ers in exchange for a third-round pick while the Titans swapped 7th round picks for defense end Solomon Thomas. The team did bring back Tyrus Wheat, a defensive end claimed by Detroit during last year’s roster cuts.
The jettisoning of two defensive linemen along with the vaporizing linebacker market seems to have made one of the NFL’s worst defenses even more porous. The moves sting even more after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones vowed to “bust the budget” ahead of free agency.

At least they got around to shaving a few dollars off of the Jonathan Mingo contract – the controversial wideout Dallas traded for but rarely used.
On the homefront, Dallas officially welcomed defensive end Rashan Gary after trading a fourth-round pick to Green Bay for his services. But a key player who is waiting to put pen to paper is kicker Brandon Aubrey; he talked his free agency journey as well as his offseason regimen. In pop culture news, sadly, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ended his engagement to his fiancé ahead of their planned wedding next month.
The Cowboys weren’t the only NFC East team making moves, as the Commanders were busy spending some of their cap dollars signing tight end Chig Okonkwo to a three-year deal worth up to $30 million. The Giants used the signing period to bury the news that co-owner Steve Tisch is looking to transfer his stake in the team to his kids after being named in the Epstein files. As for the Eagles, they agreed with tight end Dallas Goedert to push back his void date so that the two sides can come to a contract agreement.
Around the NFL, Baltimore signed edge Trey Hendrickson a day after reneging on the Maxx Crosby agreement. Quarterbacks Lamar Jackson (Ravens), Josh Allen (Bills) and Jared Goff (Lions) saw their restructure triggers pulled to clear cap space. Arizona kept their word releasing quarterback Kyler Murray who wasted no time heading to Minnesota. Lastly and miraculously, the Bills signed pass-rusher Bradley Chubb to a three-year contract just minutes after the Dolphins officially released him.
