It’s been a whirlwind year for former Wisconsin Badgers guard John Tonje.
After being traded to the Boston Celtics, Tonje made his NBA debut on February 24. The 24-year-old scored his first two points against the Brooklyn Nets on February 27. After two more appearances, he was sent back to the G-League.

Tonje was on the court for 11 combined minutes in his three appearances, but that was the extent of his NBA career, for now.
Dropping 42 points in the G-League is no joke, and that’s exactly what Tonje did as he set a new career high. The former Badgers sharpshooter shot 60% from the field and was an astonishing 8-of-10 from three-point range.
Sadly, Tonje’s night was lost in the shuffle due to Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo shocking the world and scoring 83 points against the Washington Wizards.
Regardless, Tonje proved he has what it takes to succeed at the next level. He may have only been with Wisconsin for the 2024-25 season, but Badgers fans haven’t forgotten about his contributions. It wasn’t a matter of if Tonje would make it; it was a matter of when.
The Celtics will certainly take note of his March 10 performance, which also saw Tonje grab six rebounds.
