The Texas Longhorns have landed one of their top targets, Katy Mayde Creek High School four-star linebacker Kosi Okpala. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect is the 16th commitment in Texas’ 2026 class. UT beat out Penn State, Miami and Baylor for the pledge.
Okpala, the No. 281 ranked recruit in the 247Sports composite, plays both linebacker and edge in high school. As he fills out, his position at Texas will become more clear. The soon-to-be senior has been very productive two years as a starter for the Rams with 121 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. Okpala also runs track and logged a sub-12 second 100-meter this spring.
Texas now has seven commits on defense. features seven pledges on the defensive side of the ball. If he does serve as a linebacker, he is the first one to join a class that may set the floor at the position for years to come at Texas.
