One person and four pets died after a house fire in Canyon on Tuesday night, authorities said.
Crews from the Canyon Fire Department (CFD) and Canyon Police Department (CPD) were dispatched to 1209 9th Avenue in Canyon for a structure fire at approximately 11 p.m. June 23.
Firefighters arriving to the scene could see heavy fire coming from the structure. Firefighters made entry into the home while working to extinguish the blaze.
One person was found inside the residence and removed by firefighters. Lifesaving measures were immediately initiated; however, 60-year-old Theunis DeBruin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said no other human occupants were present at the time of the fire, but four pets also died in the fire.
An investigation of the incident is ongoing by the Canyon fire and police departments.
