Maybe the Houston Texans aren’t a perfect team, but the defense delivered a performance worthy of Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward to deliver the quote of the afternoon.
Houston sacked Ward, the No. 1 overall pick, three times and hit him at least six more during Sunday’s 26-0 shutout at NRG Stadium. Ward also tossed a costly interception that led to a scoring drive from the Texans to extend the lead by 19.
So, how did Ward think the Titans looked in front of his friends and family after a 26-0 loss?
“Ass,” the quarterback said.
After that, he elaborated more on the Titans’ 0-4 start.
“Everything’s wrong,” Ward said. “Interceptions to penalties to an incompletion by me, a bad ball. Then once you’re past the 50, we’re just not continuing the drive. If we keep it a buck right now, we’re ass. We’re 0-4. At this point we’ve got nothing to lose. We’ve dropped a quarter of our (explicit) games and we’ve yet to do anything, so we have to lock in, especially myself.”
While Ward hasn’t been the only problem, his inconsistent play has led to a pair of surging wins in the division. After a month of action, Tennessee now ranks dead-last in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per contest. With the Texans’ three-touchdown day, Tennessee now has the fewest offensive touchdowns of the regular season with three scores in 16 quarters.
Under Ward, the Titans were shut out for the first time since 2019. They also haven’t won a game in 10 weeks, dating back to Tennessee’s victory over the Texans in Week 12 of last season.
“We have to win, that’s really what it comes down to no matter how we do it. At some point, we have to turn the tide.”
The Texans improve to 1-3 while the Titans fall to 0-4.
