Blaze in fireplace damages Wichita Falls home

The cold snap is partly to blame for a fire that did considerable damage to a Wichita Falls home.

Wichita Falls firefighters were dispatched to 2007 Heather Lane shortly after 1 a.m. Monday and found fire in the wall and attic in the living room area.

Assistant Fire Marshal Jody Ashlock determined the fire started above the fireplace in between the firebox and flu and spread to the attic, he said in a press release. The blaze ignited while the occupants were burning firewood. They got out safely.

The estimated damages to the structure and contents is $47,000.
