Amarillo Little Theatre launches stacked 98th season with classics and fresh debuts

Amarillo Little Theatre is raising the curtain on its 98th season, and the team says it’s one of its strongest lineups yet.

From Broadway hits like “Frozen” and “Jersey Boys” to dramatic powerhouses like “Misery” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” the upcoming season promises a mix of crowd-pleasers, local debuts and family favorites designed to appeal to a wide audience across the Texas Panhandle.

“This is one of our strongest seasons yet — from hilarious comedies to huge family-friendly musicals,” said Jason Crespin, managing artistic director for ALT. “We truly have something for everyone.”

The season officially kicked off July 10–13 with the ALT Academy’s production of “Something Rotten,” a hilarious musical mashup of Shakespeare and showbiz. That energy continues with 11 more productions across ALT’s Mainstage, Adventure Space and Academy stages. Several shows — “Misery,” “Ragtime,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “The Cottage,” “Silent Sky” and “Jersey Boys” — are first-time productions for ALT.

Season schedule and descriptions:

Behind the scenes, the process of selecting the season’s slate began in January with script readings, community input and board discussions, said ALT marketing director Raquel Marasky.

“We wanted this season leading up to our centennial to feature big, well-known names that appeal to a wide variety of audiences here in Amarillo,” she said. “We go from our big Disney show ‘Frozen’ in September to the Stephen King thriller ‘Misery’ in October. There’s something for everyone.”

Marasky also emphasized the value of investing in a season ticket package.

“The best way to experience everything Amarillo Little Theatre has to offer is through a season ticket package,” she said. “You’ll not only secure seats to some of our biggest shows, but you’ll support local arts and ensure you’re part of something truly special in this community.”

The ALT Academy continues to shine a spotlight on student performers, with productions like “Junie B in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells” and “The Prince of Egypt” highlighting the talents of elementary through high school-aged actors.

“It’s really cool to highlight all age groups, from elementary to high school students,” Marasky said. “We’re proud of the diversity of age and talent that gets nurtured at ALT.”

The theatre is also looking to grow its volunteer base ahead of the busy season.

“If you want to help bring these shows to life, stop by the theater — we have a place for everyone,” she said.

Season ticket packages and individual show tickets are available now through ALT’s website. For event updates, behind-the-scenes previews or to get involved, audiences are encouraged to follow ALT on social media or visit www.amarillolittletheatre.org.

“Our season is a powerhouse packed with well-known titles and incredible local talent,” Crespin said. “The best way to experience it all is to join us — in the audience, on stage, or behind the scenes. Amarillo Little Theatre really is the place to be.”
