The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we’re counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast.
Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let’s take a look at who has won No. 81 since the inaugural season in 2002.
Texans players to wear No. 80
No. 80 currently belongs to no one and for good reason. There’s only one player to don the jersey number in franchise history, and it’s the only player who currently can say represent the Texans in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Best Player: Andre Johnson
To some, Johnson is the greatest player to ever strap up in the Texans’ uniform. Not only does he have his bust in the Hall of Fame, but Johnson is considered a top 10 receiver in league history.
After 12 seasons with the franchise, Johnson closed out his career with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, but his success was minimal. During his time in Houston, he was a seven-time Pro Bowl target and a four-time All-Pro, leading the league in receptions and receiving yards twice.
To this day. Johnson still leads the Texans in every receiving category. He remains a fixture around the building and one of the few players who can claim Canton as home in league history. There’s only one offensive G.O.A.T. and entering this fall, no one is beating the greatest first-round pick out of Miami in franchise history.
