Saturday, June 27, will be the last day customers can eat at the original Skyline Chili location in Covington before it closes and moves two blocks away.
The Covington Skyline is one of the oldest in the franchise and a longtime fixture for Northern Kentucky families, with some employees working there for decades.
In a Facebook post, the restaurant’s owner encouraged customers to visit the original location one last time before it closes Saturday, marking the end of a more than 50-year run at Third and Philadelphia streets.
The business plans to reopen June 29 at a new location at Fifth and Philadelphia streets.
The new location, a renovated former Frisch’s restaurant, will include a drive-thru, expanded seating and updated amenities.
The location faced potential closure in 2023, in part because the site could not accommodate a drive-thru.
Move to Fifth Street brings drive-thru, more space
Franchise partner One Holland Restaurant Group later took ownership and instead opted to relocate the restaurant.
“This move allows us to do that in a space that better fits today’s needs,” Amy Leigh, marketing director for the owners, told The Enquirer. “The new restaurant will offer a drive-thru, additional seating, and updated amenities, while staying true to the Skyline experience our guests know and love.”
