An adorable black rescue dog from Alton has been voted the top pet in Illinois.
Fans selected their favorites in the Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards, a USA TODAY Pets contest to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society, selecting a winner from each state, along with runners-up. Cats and dogs were eligible.
They’re among 50,000 entries from around the nation.
Thor from Alton wins in Illinois
Thor, Illinois’ winner, will receive a $3,500 cash prize, plus tickets to an August awards ceremony.
Fergie from Chicago wins second place
Fergie from Chicago won second place and will receive an $1,000 cash prize.
Princess Sarah from Hoffman Estates wins third place
Princess Sarah from Hoffman Estates won third place in Illinois and will receive a $500 prize.
Voting for Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards Best in Nation
Voting for the best pet in the nation will take place July 7-15. An awards show is scheduled for Aug. 9.
