The Mariemont man accused of stabbing a woman and then jumping from the Purple People Bridge worked at a Wyoming elementary school.
Victor Greg Nicolas, 39, was arrested on charges of felonious assault and domestic violence on Oct. 24 after Mariemont police said he stabbed a woman in his Homewood Road house multiple times and fled.
The woman, 41, was cut on her right arm, according to court documents. Her injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
After fleeing, police from Newport encountered Nicolas on the Newport Southbank Bridge, also known as the Purple People Bridge.
Nicolas jumped into the Ohio River and several dozen firefighters rescued him from the water.
Nicolas was an intervention specialist at Hilltop Elementary School, according to a copy of an email sent to parents by Wyoming City Schools Superintendent Tim Weber.
Wyoming City Schools suspended Nicolas without pay after learning of the incident, Weber said.
“We are working to support our students and staff members,” Weber said. “If you or your child is in need of support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, counselor, or building administrator.”
Nicolas appeared to work as an intervention specialist at Wyoming City Schools for seven years, according to a LinkedIn profile matching his description. In his role, he worked with students and parents to develop students’ individual education plans. He had spent four years in the same position at Mariemont City Schools before joining Wyoming’s district.
Nicolas remains in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center on no bond, according to court records. He is expected to appear in Hamilton County Municipal Court next on Oct. 31.
