Week 5 recap: Richland County goes 4-5 in Week 5 of high school football season

MANSFIELD — The midway point is finally here.

Week 5 of the 2025 high school football season is in the books and Richland County teams played pretty well as the season flipped to the second half.

Richland County Football Scoreboard

Clear Fork 34, Pleasant 0

The Clear Fork Colts cruised to an easy 34-0 Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win over Pleasant.

The Colts got on the board with 4:39 left in the first quarter when Devyn Oswalt picked up a fumble and returned it 8 yards for a defensive TD. Marcus Hoeflich then made it 13-0 with a 48-yard touchdown run before Alex Schlosser made it 21-0 with a 2-yard TD run before the first half ended. Ben Campbell then added a 17-yard TD run and Schlosser added a 6-yard interception return for a score to give the Colts a dominant win.

Hoeflich was as good as he has been all year throwing for 73 yards, but did most of his damage with his legs running for 156 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown. Campbell added 38 yards and a score while Schlosser ran for 8 yards and a TD. Porter Schmidt added 58 yards on 15 carries as the Colts ran for 273 yards.

The Clear Fork defense was stout again allowing just 45 yards of total offense, 30 through the air and 15 on the ground. It scored twice.

The Colts are now 4-1 and 2-0 in the MOAC. They host Marion Harding in Week 6.

Crestview 44, South Central 7

The Crestview Cougars dominated their way to a 44-7 Firelands Conference win over South Central during Week 5 of the high school football season.

The Cougars on on the board first when Carson Keener hauled in a 47-yard pass from Liam Kuhn to make it 7-0 after the first quarter. After South Central responded, Keith Abshire booted a 41-yard field goal to give the Cougars a 10-7 lead before Ayden Reymer made it 17-7 with a 10-yard TD run. Wyatt Barber added a 13-yard scoring run and Max Durbin hauled in a 55-yard catch from Kuhn to make it 30-7. Branson Hider had a 1-yard TD run to make it 37-7 before the Cougars added an insurance score.

The Cougars are now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the FC. They host Plymouth in Week 6.

Lexington 42, Wooster 14

The Lexington Minutemen cruised to an easy 42-14 win over Wooster during Week 5 of the high school football season.

Joe Caudill got the scoring started with an interception returned for a touchdown before connecting with Brayden Fogle for the second score of the night. Markale Martin scored on a rushing touchdown in his first game back after missing the first four games with a broken hand before Seven Allen added a rushing touchdown of his own to make it 28-0. Cole Eichorn scored a rushing touchdown and Fogle added an interception return for a score to make it 42-0 before halftime.

The Minutemen improve to 4-1 and 1-0 in the OCC. They host Mansfield Senior in Week 6.

Martins Ferry 34, Lucas 15

The Lucas Cubs took a tough 34-15 loss to Martins Ferry in Week 5 of the high school football season.

The Cubs are now 2-3 on the season and travel to Elgin in Week 6.

West Holmes 35, Madison 0

The Madison Rams were shut out in Week 5 by their Ohio Cardinal Conference rivals. It was the first time since Week 10 of the 2023 season the Rams failed to put points on the board.

They are now 2-3 and travel to Wooster in Week 6.

New Philadelphia 45, Mansfield Senior 26

The Tygers had a 12-7 lead late in the third quarter before the New Philadelphia Quakers kicked the door down. They scored 38-unanswered points from the 2:18 mark of the third quarter to the 8:11 mark of the fourth to blow open a close game.

The Tygers got on the board with 1:58 left in the first quarter when Braylon Fletcher scored from a yard out. After the Quakers responded, so did Mansfield Senior when Terrance Feagin hauled in an 85-yard touchdown pass from Sean Tanner to make it 12-7.

The Tygers did score the final two touchdowns of the night as DJ Corbin caught touchdown passes of 51 and 56 yards from Tanner, but it was too little, too late and the Tygers fell 45-26.

Tanner completed 14-of-32 passes for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns while Corbin caught 5 passes for 131 yards and 2 TDs and Feagin had 3 catches for 104 yards and a score. Plessie Wentworth had 3 catches for 29 yards. Fletcher led the team in rushing with 17 yards and a score while Ajahi Evans added 16 yards and Feagin had 12 yards on the ground.

The Tygers had 285 yards of total offense and allowed 366 yards including 238 on the ground.

They fall to 0-5 and travel to Lexington in Week 6.
