Watch: St. X baseball showers teammate with medals during interview

St. Xavier baseball’s all-time steals leader Dillon Brus put his elite baserunning skills on display Thursday night to propel the Bombers to a regional championship over Oak Hills.

His hustle was responsible for two of the Bombers runs needed to top a tough Highlanders team 6-5. After an RBI triple, he hit a single, stole his 35th and 36th bases on the season and scored a run on a Brayden Bricking RBI.

What may have been more unexpected was how the senior outfielder kept his composure during an interview with The Enquirer’s Chase Souder.

Every teammate, short one, put his medal around his neck while he talked.

“I felt bad, I ended the interview one medal short of him having every single one,” Souder said. Still, he had an impressive, clutch performance delivering his interview.

To Brus, however, all his teammates played a key part of the day.

“Everybody played their part today,” Brus told Souder. “These are all brothers, and there’s nobody else I’d rather do it with.”
