Fairless Falcons flying into state meet
The 2026 season may end with multiple golden moments for the Fairless boys in Division IV.
Brice Fuller is the top seed in the 3,200 and Bradlee Keehn has the fastest qualifying time in the 800. Both are also on the top-ranked 3,200 relay with Andrew Hearn and Nolan Kutz.
Hearn and Fuller finished 1-2 in the 1,600 at the Austintown Fitch regional meet. They have posted the state’s top two times in the event this season.
Fairless has never won a team state title in any sport. After winning their first regional team title at Fitch, the Falcons could end that drought in Columbus.
Sky’s the limit for Perry’s Emerson Karrenbauer, teammates
How many Division II state titles can Perry’s Emerson Karrenbauer win this year?
Stark County’s top girls sprinter is the No. 1 seed in the 100 and 200. That’s only half the story. Karrenbauer’s 800 relay is the top seed and her 400 relay ranks No. 2.
Baileigh Brown, Mya Patton and Allison Reese teamed up with Karrenbauer to win district and regional titles in both relays. A fantastic finish may be in the cards for the Panthers.
Is this the moment for Louisville’s Kylah Meyer, Marlington’s Irelyn Johnson?
Louisville’s Kylah Meyer and Marlington’s Irelyn Johnson battled one another at the Stark County Championships. With their teams in different divisions, the area’s top two girls distance runners could end up winners at the state meet.
Meyer has been the state’s top-ranked 3,200 runner in Division II for most of the season. Her come-from-behind win at regionals made her the top seed in the 1,600.
Johnson is the No. 2 seed in the 1,600 and 3,200 in Division III. Her biggest competition in both races will be top seed Sophia Szolosi of Athens.
Lake Center Christian’s Gianna Ritchie looks to repeat
Gianna Ritchie made history in 2025 when she became Lake Center Christian’s first state champion. A second straight title in Division V is within reach.
Ritchie is the No. 2 seed in the 800 behind Smithville’s Maryn Erdman, who beat her at the Cuyahoga Heights regional. The two have waged some memorable battles in recent years. Ritchie rallied past Erdman on the final lap to win her state title.
Jackson’s Abby LaPole looks to three-peat
Jackson’s Abby LaPole already has made this season a memorable one. Her throw of 23 feet, 5.75 inches in the girls seated shot put broke the all-time Stark County record.
A win this week would be a third straight state championship for LaPole. She is the heavy favorite.
Perry’s Christopher Good and Ahsha DiPietro also hope to win state titles in seated events. DiPietro is the No. 1 seed in the girls 400 and 800.
