Columbus police officers shot and killed a man while responding to a domestic violence call, according to a police news release.
Officers responded at 11:42 p.m. June 2 to the 800 block of Wilson Avenue after a caller reported a man assaulted a female victim and was going to get a firearm.
As officers approached the home, they heard multiple gunshots and saw a man shooting, according to the new release. Two officers fired, hitting him.
Medics took the man to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He died at 2:01 a.m.
Police are not releasing the man’s name until his family can be notified.
Columbus police spokesperson Sgt. Joe Albert told Dispatch news partner NBC4/WCMH-TV that the shooting happened in the same block as another fatal shooting, which happened 11 months ago at a July 4 party; however, police have not established any connection between the two shootings.
A firearm was found at the scene, according to the news release. Police say it is unclear at whom or what the man was shooting.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
The Dispatch has requested dashcam and body camera video, 911 calls and other records in connection to the shooting.
