Vote: Who are the Akron-Area High School Athletes of the Week for March 3-9?

It’s time to take a look at the standout high school performers from the Akron area for last week.

Your vote will determine who will be the Akron-Area High School Athlete of the Week for March 3-9. We will pick one girl and one boy. Each athlete’s credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 5 p.m. Thursday. The winners will be announced Friday morning on BeaconJournal.com.

Now, let’s meet the candidates.

Here’s a look at the girls nominees, in alphabetical order:

Gabi Gartin, Chippewa wrestling

Placed third at 115 pounds at the state tournament.

Anna Madi, Brecksville wrestling

Placed seventh at 125 pounds at the state tournament.

Kayla Moroschan, Chippewa wrestling

Placed third at 120 pounds at the state tournament.

Anne Ruble, North wrestling

Placed seventh at 215 pounds at the state tournament.

Julie Tompkins, Mogadore basketball

Scored a team-high 14 points — including all nine of her team’s first-half points — in the Wildcats’ 48-34 loss to Waterford in a Division VII state semifinal.

Here’s a look at the boys nominees, in alphabetical order:

Brydon Feister, Hoban wrestling

Claimed Hoban’s first state wrestling championship since 1981 with a 6-5 win in the Division II final at 190 pounds.

Gavin Genovese, Woodridge wrestling

Got the match’s lone takedown in overtime for a 3-1 win in the Division II state title match at 113 pounds.

Sam Greer, Hoban basketball

Collected 18 points, nine rebounds, an assist and a block in the Knights’ 58-45 loss to Garfield Heights in a Division III regional final.

Rylan Seacrist, Brecksville wrestling

Won a state title at 113 pounds with a 4-3 win in the Division I final.

Jarreau Walker, Streetsboro wrestling

Won a Division II state title with a 12-3 victory in the final at 106 pounds.
