Cooler weather continues but rain enters Cincinnati area weather picture

Grab the raincoats, boots, and umbrellas. We’re in for a mid-week rainathon.

The chance for rain showers starts early May 5 and ends early May 7, with occasional thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. Along with rain, Cincinnati can expect cooler weather through early morning Saturday, May 9. Temperatures will moderate this weekend.

While there is a 10 to 50% chance for rain early in the day May 5, the chance for rain kicks up to about 80 to 100% starting at 4 p.m. until 3 a.m. From 2 p.m. until 1 a.m. May 6, thunder is possible. At 4 a.m. May 6, the chance for rain drops to 30 to 50% until about 1 p.m. Then, there is only a slight chance of rain until about 1 a.m. Thursday, May 7.

It’s possible that rain showers return Sunday evening, but that forecast will become more certain in the days ahead.

While the high May 5 is forecast at 72 degrees, temperatures will drop into the low 50s at night, and the high May 6 is forecast at 60 degrees. Temperatures the night of May 7 will dip into the 40s. By May 8, temperatures start to creep back up with a high of 69 degrees. By May 9, the high will be 73 degrees, according to the hourly weather forecast.

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 48. Southwest wind around 7 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, mainly before 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday night: A slight chance of showers before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 40.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 69.

Friday night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 53.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Sunday night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Monday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
