It’s time to take a look at the standout high school performers from the Akron area last week.
Your vote will determine who will be the Akron-Area High School Athlete of the Week for Aug. 25-31. We will pick one girl and one boy. Each athlete’s credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5. The winners will be announced Saturday morning, Sept. 6, on BeaconJournal.com.

Here’s a look at the girls nominees, in alphabetical order:
Abby Alden, Archbishop Hoban soccer
Scored three goals and assisted on another goal in an 8-0 win over St. Vincent-St. Mary.
Kayla Cellura, Twinsburg soccer
Scored three goals in a 6-0 win over Stow.
Maggie Gerschutz, Wadsworth cross country
Placed second at the Ashland Invitational in a time of 18:49.2.
Emma Liu, Hudson tennis
Went 3-0 and defeated each opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Madison Mintz, Hoban volleyball
Had 26 assists in a 30-28, 25-19, 25-17 win over Austintown Fitch.

Jake Harrington, Stow football
Completed 17 of 20 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-14 victory over Barberton.
Sam Hopp, Twinsburg cross country
Won the individual title at the Ashland Invitational in 15:44.6.
Angelo Marella, Tallmadge soccer
Scored three goals in a 5-0 win over Copley.
Andrew McKnight, Copley football
Caught three touchdown passes, including a 99-yarder, in a 49-19 win over Firestone.
Buddy Willig, Norton football
Logged an 87-yard kick return, scored on runs of 2 and 8 yards and caught eight passes for 132 yards and a 15-yard TD in a 54-20 home win over Lutheran East.
