Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Myles Murphy was carted off the field during practice on Aug. 15 to receive an IV for muscle cramps.
Murphy, the Bengals’ first-round draft pick in 2023, said the heat got to him at practice and he was dealing with cramps. He expects to practice on Aug. 16.
“Just some cramping, that’s all. A little hot today. I’ll be on the field tomorrow,” Murphy said following practice.
In Cincinnati’s first preseason game on Aug. 13, Murphy started opposite of defensive end Boye Mafe. Murphy is entering the final season of his rookie contract and the team opted not to pick up his fifth-year option.
Following the season, the Bengals will have to decide if they want to re-sign Murphy or let him walk to free agency. A strong season for Murphy would not only help his stock as a pending free agent, but it would also help ensure the Bengals take the next step rushing the passer.
The Bengals recorded 35 sacks in the regular season last year with Murphy accounting for 5.5 of them. He’s coming off a career-high in sacks and is hoping to build off his best season to date.
Murphy’s career with the Bengals has been inconsistent. He’s shown flashes of promise, but his production hasn’t always matched the expectations set for him as a former first-round pick.
In 47 games for the Bengals, Murphy has 8.5 sacks and 17 quarterback hits. The upcoming season is a make-or-break season for Murphy and getting through training camp healthy is paramount to his success
