Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue was dispatched to the scene at around 5 p.m. on a report of a two-vehicle accident, according to an announcement from the department. On arrival, crews found a vehicle sitting in the eastbound lane of West Main Street (Ohio 39) and another vehicle up against a house and parked car.

Firefighters could smell gas and hear the sound of natural gas being released. They requested additional help from Baltic Fire and Rescue and Enbridge Gas. Firefighters assisted a driver from the vehicle against the house.

Crews evacuated a three-block area to ensure everyone’s safety due to the natural gas leak. Additional assistance was provided by the Ohio Department of Transportation, AEP and the Sugarcreek Street Department.

Employees of Enbridge Gas shut off the leak. No natural gas was found in any buildings in the area except the house that was struck by the car. High amounts of gas were found there, and firefighters worked to remove it.
