Urban Meyer was unbothered by OSU QB Cardale Jones' 'play school' post

Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer said he was unbothered by the 2012 tweet that made his quarterback viral.

Appearing on “The Script” May 20 with former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones, Meyer explained his thoughts on Jones’ infamous tweet about his displeasure with classwork.

Jones posted: “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS.”

“I guess I’ve never overreacted,” Meyer said on the show. “Was I upset? No. I mean, it’s stupid stuff, and we’ve all done stupid stuff.”

Jones was a member of Meyer’s first recruiting class. He later explained the tweet was a way of venting frustration after he received a B on an exam he thought he had aced.

“[Still] can’t believe I tweeted something as stupid as this but hey, we live and we learn,” Jones tweeted in 2015.

“I knew Cardale, Cardale didn’t take school as serious as he should [have], but that makes him like most young people that really concentrate on football,” Meyer said.

Jones started at quarterback for Meyer during Ohio State’s national championship run in 2014. After his playing career, Jones returned to Ohio State to complete a Bachelor’s degree in African American and African Studies. He received that degree in 2017, making him the first college graduate in his family.
