Teachers workshop at Fort Laurens

BOLIVAR – The Zoar Community Association and the Ohio America 250 Commission will host a teachers’ workshop as part of the America 250 celebration, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25, at the Fort Laurens Museum. Topics will include the American Revolution, American Indian cultures and Ohio’s role in the fight for independence. Teachers will receive book lists, activities and other sources to enhance lesson plans. Reserve free tickets at www.historiczoarvillage.com.

Grants for nonprofits available

Atwood Area Fall Festival photo contest

MINERAL CITY − The annual photo contest at the Atwood Area Fall Festival will take place Oct. 3-5, at Atwood Lake Park. The contest is managed by Focus Point. Amateur photographers can submit photos in three categories: friendship, transportation, hiding in plain sight. There are adult and youth entry categories. Scholarship fundraiser

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Ohio State Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County will hold its fifth annual Drive-up Fishing Expedition from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 18, at Tuscora Park. The event raises scholarship funds for Tuscarawas County students attending The Ohio State University.

Cars will enter from Tuscora Avenue and move along Al Maloney Midway, past the tennis courts. Participants canl purchase a catch of the day for $20, and each prize will have a minimum value of $20. Fire department hosts fish fry

SCIO − The Scio Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a fish fry at the Scio Fire Hall, 318 W. Main St., from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19. For more information or to place orders in advance, call 740-945-0180.

Museum to offers free admission

Concert at Ohio Star Theater

Events at Historic Zoar Village

ZOAR – Historic Zoar Village will hold its Civil War School Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19, for public, private, and homeschooled students. Students can interact with famous figures of the Civil War, watch infantry and artillery demonstrations, and participate in hands-on activities. Cost is $10 and free for children younger than 4. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 330-874-3011 or emailing tshrum@zca.org.

The village will also host a Civil War reenactment of the Battle of Appomattox from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20, and a surrender ceremony from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21. Admission is $12 for adults and free for 12 and younger. Both reenactor registration and pre-event ticket sales are available on www.historiczoarvillage.com.

● The Tuscarawas County Commissioners location for the Sept. 17 meeting has been changed to the Clover Cafe at the fairgrounds.
