We have lived in Perry Township for 52 years. In that time, our Plymouth Knolls allotment has been resurfaced exactly once — 50 years ago — and even then, it was only a “chip and seal” application.
For decades, we have supported levies based on promises that a specific number of miles would be paved, yet we have seen no return on those investments. I am proposing a new standard: Future levies must include a transparent, line-item plan indicating exactly which streets will be resurfaced and when. Furthermore, if the township fails to meet that plan, there must be clear consequences.
Additionally, we were recently told that yard waste disposal was cut because of the road levy failures. These services should be linked; yard waste processing should be integrated into the road levy approval to ensure basic maintenance isn’t used as a bargaining chip.
The bottom line is simple: If the trustees cannot provide a detailed, upfront plan, they should not expect our support for the levy.
