LANCASTER − Three people are dead following a house fire at 655 1/2 E. Fifth Ave. on April 1.
City Fire Chief Slade Schultz said two adults and one child were killed in the 1 a.m. blaze. The fire department is not yet listing the names of the victims.
Two people escaped the fire.
“Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions,” Schultz said. “Two people were rescued from the house. They were treated and evaluated on scene by Lancaster medics. They were not transported. We have multiple fire departments providing mutual aid. We had the Red Cross contacted for the female that was displaced.”
As of early morning, the fire was contained.
Schultz said the house was off an alley between Fifth and Sixth avenues, which made it difficult for firefighters to battle the fire.
Schultz said the city police and county coroner’s office were also at the scene.
The fire is under investigation and the cause is not yet determined.
