CANTON ‒ Another mosquito trapped in the city has tested positive for the West Nile virus, Canton City Public Health said.
The mosquito was trapped the week of June 16 near Market Avenue N and Eastwood Street NE. Three mosquitos found in Canton have now tested positive this year, with the others found in the 2200 block of Sandwith Avenue SW and at 2000 47th Street NE.
West Nile virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental U.S. The virus is spread to humans from the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms include fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea or rash, and are seen in about 20% of cases.
