According to Cornwall police, a 2012 Mazda 3 driven by Michael Grove Jr., 21, of Central Valley, was traveling north on Route 32 in the area of Long Hill Road Extension when it struck the rear of a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Robert McCue Jr., 60 of Highland Mills, which was also headed north.

The impact caused both vehicles to roll over several times before coming to rest in the roadway.

McCue suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Grove was evaluated by emergency medical service workers on the scene and refused further treatment or transportation to a hospital.

Grove was arrested and transported to Town of Cornwall police headquarters, where he provided a breath sample which showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.22%, police said.

Grove was charged with first-degree vehicular assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated, both felonies; and having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, being an unlicensed operator, operating out of class and following too closely, vehicle and traffic infractions.

He was arraigned at the Centralized Arraignment part at the Orange County jail and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.

The name of Grove’s attorney was not immediately available.
