The Wag, central Ohio's 'first 'people park and dog bar' to open in Grandview

In less than two months, Grandview will welcome Columbus’ first-ever “people park and dog bar” — over 53,000 square feet of space where dogs can roam and their owners can, well, drink.

The Wag, located at 1330 Norton Ave., is a members-only, indoor-outdoor dog park, bar and community space for pets and humans alike. Set to open Nov. 15, The Wag aims to be a facility where “dogs can be dogs, humans can be humans, and both are treated with care, safety, and hospitality,” according to a press release.

For dogs, that means an indoor play area, an acre of outdoor space with a turf park, supervised off-leash zones, a pet shop and a grooming salon, while their owners have access to a three-sided indoor bar, food trucks, Wi-Fi and big-screen televisions.

Day passes are $15 — plus $5 per additional dog, up to three per human — while standard memberships are $55 a month and VIP memberships are $75.

Founder Casie Goldstein said in an email The Wag will offer pre-sale, discounted memberships that come with a “few surprises” beginning Oct. 13. She added that those interested can download “The Wag Dog Bar” mobile app and create a profile for their dog.

Goldstein said both kinds of membership have perks like 10% off private event rentals, access to members-only events and a members-only drink menu, a free monthly guest pass and a special daycare package at All Paws Retreat — a dog daycare, groomer and boarding service also founded by Goldstein.

The VIP membership additionally allows access to the outside, off-leash dog park before The Wag officially opens, 10% off a full-service grooming session and an extra free monthly guest passes, Goldstein said.

All dogs must meet certain health and behavioral criteria upon entry, and new pets must wear identification collars from The Wag their first three days so the facility’s “Tail Chasers,” or staff attendants, can keep a closer eye on them.

“Front desk will introduce the new member to the facility and check for soft cues that the dog may not do well,” Goldstein said.

If the new dog passes those initial greetings, their owner will be given the green light to take them off-leash if they’d like.

On the human side of things, The Wag’s bar will feature a nanobrewery, on-tap craft beers, pre-batched craft cocktails, nitro cold brew, a rotating selection of canned and bottled drinks, mocktails, juices and more, according to the press release.

The facility is also collaborating with Endeavor Brewing to offer a “surprise tap,” with $1 per sold unit going toward local pet rescues, the release states.

The Wag’s grand opening will be from 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, with regular hours listed below.
