The Scoop. Virgil's, Patrick's and Tasti Creme serve up cold delights

A few more stops on my ice cream adventures.

If you’re an Ohio ice cream fan, chances are you have a soft spot for strawberry. According to a recent study by Innerbody Research, Ohio ranks as the nation’s No. 29 most ice-cream-obsessed state, and strawberry is the state’s most-searched flavor. Nationwide, strawberry also tops the list, with chocolate chip and cookie dough outranking classic chocolate and vanilla.

If you’ve been following along you know I enjoyed a scoop of strawberry ice cream on a unique pretzel cone at Lil T’s.

With that in mind, I set out for a few more sweet stops around Stark County. I sampled a patriotic slushie, a cup of peach ice cream and a waffle cone with coffee crunch.

Stop No. 18: Virgil’s Coffee House & Creamery

Where: 523 E. Main St. in Louisville.

When: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday.

Phone: 234-252-6035

What I tried: I’ve always loved coffee ice cream, and Virgil’s had coffee crunch on the menu. It was a hot day, so I ordered a small in a house-made waffle cone and sat inside to enjoy every bite from one of the many comfortable seats in a room with a view.

Sweet take: Subtle coffee notes with bits of Heath bar, this was a perfect choice, providing me with a little coffee boost and contrasting textures. I also really like the cone sleeve they use, as it catches any drips.

Stop No. 19: Patrick’s Eat N Treat-Ice Cream

Where: 1101 Cleveland Ave. NW in Canton.

When: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Phone: 330-546-0060

What I tried: The day I stopped at Patrick’s it was hot, like late summer but it’s only early June. Looking at the menu choices, I decided to go with a cool-me-off childhood favorite, a slushie, and celebrate America’s 250th birthday all in one gulp.

Sweet take: The Bomb Pop Slushie, layers of blue raspberry, lemonade and fruit punch did taste like summer in a cup. And true to slushie form, there was no amount of slow sipping that could prevent brain freeze or keep my tongue from turning purple. Fun!!

Stop No. 20: Tasti Creme

Where: 4767 Navarre Road SW in Perry Township.

When: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Phone: 330-417-6005

What I tried: The brownie sundae looked really good, but I decided to keep it somewhat simple and ordered the limited peach ice cream (available in soft serve and hard dip). I wanted the hard dip because I knew it would also have some peach bits, and it did.

Sweet take: This was pure delight. The peaches added some texture to the smooth, creamy ice cream, and it wasn’t overloaded with artificial flavors. It was a few scoops of summer on another hot Ohio day.
