If the Dublin Scioto football team makes the playoffs this fall, it will compete in Division I rather than Division II.
Scioto is one of eight programs statewide to opt into Division I, the OHSAA announced June 22 in a revision to its 2026 region and division alignments, which it originally announced in April.
The Irish will be in Region 2 instead of Division II, Region 7 and Upper Arlington, which was moved from Region 3 to Region 2 in April, has been reassigned back to Region 3.
Scioto last competed in Division I in 2012. It had been in Division II since.
“With [Dublin City Schools] redistricting happening soon and our eventual growth as a school, we thought it was important to start competing at the Division I level,” Scioto coach Alex Place said.
Scioto opened in 1995 as Dublin’s second high school and won its lone football state title that fall in Division II.
Clayton Northmont and Toledo St. John’s also are moving up from Division II to Region 2. Austintown-Fitch, Cleveland Heights, Elyria, Euclid and Hudson will move from Division II to Division I, Region 1.
In other moves, Perrysburg and Toledo Whitmer are moving from Region 1 to Region 2, and Lebanon, Middletown and Springboro are moving from Region 3 to Division I, Region 4.
There will be 80 teams in Division I, up from 72, and 98 in Division II rather than 106.
