MASSILLON – The city and Ohio Department of Transportation will hold a second public meeting to discuss a proposed roundabout at Lake Avenue NE and state Route 21.

The meeting is set for 5 to 7 p.m. June 23 at the Massillon Recreation Center, 505 Erie St. N. A similar session was held in mid-December.

The Massillon Engineering Office and ODOT are mulling significant upgrades to Route 21 at Lake Avenue, in addition to First Street NE at Lake Avenue. Roundabouts are high on the list of safety changes aimed at improving traffic flow.

An average of 18,800 vehicles travel the Lake and Route 21 intersection per day, while approximately 16,000 cars use the Lake and First Street intersection.

The cost to redo the intersections is estimated between $4 million and $8 million — with the city mostly using grant funds for the project, city Engineer Alex Pitts has said.

The soonest any upgrade work will start is May 2028.
