Sharlene Wharton is the newest member of Bucyrus City Council.
Wharton, during a swearing-in ceremony on June 30, will take over the seat vacated by Robert Taylor, according to Kevin Myers, president of Bucyrus City Council.
“Her first meeting will be next Tuesday, July 7,” Myers said. “She will replace Robert Taylor on all of the committees.”
Wharton told the News Journal she was “excited to get to work with the council.”
“I love Bucyrus and want to do all I can to improve the day-to-day life of every citizen,” Wharton said. “We are a great community with some of the most generous and kind people you’ll ever get to know.”
Her goal is to help Bucyrus realize its full potential.
“My top priority is to find the common ground and continue to build on the city’s strong foundations,” Wharton said. “Together we will do great things.”
Taylor, a Republican, resigned June 2 from his at-large seat during a regular council meeting.
At the time of his resignation, Taylor said he was leaving to protect himself and his family from what he perceived as threats from the public.
Members of the Crawford County Republican Central Committee appointed Wharton to the seat.
The term began Jan. 1, 2026, and will expire Dec. 31, 2027.
