A Seville man has been arrested and charged with rape after his DNA was recently matched to a rape that occurred 26 years ago in Green, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office says.
On Feb. 15, 2000, a 26-year-old woman reported she had been raped by an unknown man in her vehicle at an unknown location in or near Green, a sheriff’s office news release states. Detectives were unable to identify a suspect, and a sexual assault collection kit was completed and submitted to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing.
The DNA that was obtained could not be linked to any known persons. The DNA was retained for future testing and comparison, the sheriff’s office said.
In January 2026, BCI was able to match the DNA to Anthony D. Collins, 48, the release says. His DNA had recently been uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
The investigation was reopened, and the case was investigated by Summit County Sheriff’s Office detectives. The initial investigation and the second investigation were reviewed with the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office and criminal charges were filed.
Collins was arrested June 25 and transported to the Summit County Jail.
